What joy to have met with Jessica today at Mellow Mushroom!  We had the Philosopher’s Pie Pizza… was delicious!

It is a good direction for me, one who once was allured by a different kind of mushroom altogether…

Jessica is one of two Focus Missionaries I’ve supported over the last year and a half. The other Focus Missionary, also named Jessica, will be entering as a postulate with the Dominican sisters in Nashville!!  Happy St. Dominic Feast Day Jessica!!

I’m so happy to be supporting a ministry so vital to the growth and development of our culture, growth and development that transforms the hearts of college students as they make their way through a world infused with large doses of the devil’s infamous snake oil: sin –that nasty poison that hollows out the heart like a black hole, taking others with it!

With gratitude, I’m combating this snake oil, helping to sow the seeds of eternal life!

Focus Missionaries have an excellent approach for reaching out to students –building friendships.  Each student who signs up for Bible studies throughout the semester also has the opportunity to meet one-on-one with their missionary each week and meet with others during group Bible studies.  This year Jessica led a group of students, who were also involved with Greek life (fraternities & sororities), to Mexico to help build homes for those less fortunate.

How wonderful to inspire others towards charity!  It reminds of a parable our Lord gave us of the Sheep and the Goats…

The Sheep and the Goats

31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’

44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

–Matthew 25: 31-46

I’m also glad to be able to support the recent campaign they’ve started which equips our missionaries with new backpacks to give out to students on one of the 82 campus where they serve, each containing a Bible and info to join with other students for Bible studies –only $4.89 per backpack!!

Not only am I supporting this program, I’m distributing an invitational letter to various parishes in my diocese to invite other parishioners to do so as well!  Would you like to help support a Focus missionary or provide a backpack to help counter the devil’s snake oil?  If so, don’t hesitate to let me know or get in touch with Focus directly:

Indeed, the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.  By supporting Focus missionaries you’re supporting the transformation of our culture into a Christ-centered culture instead of a man-centered one.  This means less divorce, less pornography consumption, less sex-trafficking, less STDs, drug abuse and suicide and more fellowship, more charity, more love!!

Also, each Focus missionary is prepared to invite students to become missionaries themselves… Focus has averaged 25% GROWTH PER YEAR SINCE ITS INCEPTION!!!

With this type of growth, cultural transformation is inevitable!

Thank you Jessica!    Thank you Jesus!

Buckle your seat belts friends… we’re on the journey of eternity!
